How much should a small business website cost in 2026?

Agencies quote $5,000+. DIY builders eat your weekends. Here is the real math for a small business website in 2026, and where the $99 model fits.

The three prices you will hear

Ask five people what a website costs and you get five answers. In practice small businesses meet three price bands. Agencies quote $3,000 to $10,000 and deliver in 6 to 12 weeks, with meetings, revision rounds, and a project manager between you and the person doing the work. Freelance marketplaces quote $300 to $1,500 with wildly uneven quality, and the good ones are booked. DIY builders like Wix or Squarespace look free, but cost $200 to $400 a year forever, plus the weekends you spend fighting templates.

None of those bands are wrong. They are just built for different customers. The agency band exists for companies with committees. The DIY band exists for people who enjoy building. Most local business owners are in neither group: they want the result, not the process.

What actually determines the price

Strip away the branding and every website quote is made of the same four ingredients: number of pages, custom design versus template, integrations (booking, payments, maps), and who writes the content. A one-page site with booking and WhatsApp costs radically less to produce than a 15-page site with a blog and a CMS, and honest pricing reflects that.

That is why fixed packages beat hourly quotes for small projects. When the scope is known (a barber needs a menu of services, gallery, booking, and a map) there is nothing to estimate. The price can simply be printed on the site.

Where the $99 model fits

My Launch Page is $99: one focused page, designed and coded custom, with a free .com domain and 12 months of hosting, delivered as a first draft in 48 hours. It works because the scope is fixed and the process is async: no calls, no meetings, just a short content form and WhatsApp updates.

The honest caveat: a single page is not for everyone. If you need five pages and local SEO, that is the $399 Business Site. If you need a CMS and a blog, that is the $799 Growth System. But if you are a local business that needs to look professional and capture inquiries this week, you do not need a $5,000 project. You need one great page, live, with your phone number on it.
